About Me:
Hello I am Emilee. I am a New Hampshire native. I have two pet kitties named Dexter and DeeDee. I work as a Registered Dental Hygienist in private practice for the last five years. Throughout my practice I observed things about my patients which I could not understand and was left with many unanswered questions:
Why do some people have TMD (some refer to this as TMJ), and what can dental professionals do to help, besides referring patients to a specialist?
Why do some people have buildup of tartar and plaque (aka calculus and biofilm) no matter the amount of oral hygiene instruction they are given?
Why are some patients constantly needing their mouth to be suctioned and seem to be so uncomfortable during their cleaning appointments?
In search of answers, I stumbled upon the world of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, or Orofacial Myology.
I took a course with Sarah Hornsby, an RDH and orofacial myofunctional therapist. I knew I needed to provide this information to others. I began to see my patients through a whole new lens. Everything clicked into place, and I now am able to point patients towards solutions.
I am excited to offer this knowledge to patients and help them to piece together the myo puzzle.
It is important to note and as a disclaimer, while I am a Registered Dental Hygienist, orofacial myofunctional therapy does not fall under my RDH license. When practicing myofunctional therapy, I am NOT providing hygienist or dental services.
